Elina Svitolina and Amanda Anisimova meet in the Round of 16, the ninth-ranked player against the tenth. The pricing leans on history: Svitolina leads the head-to-head 4-1, including a 6-4 6-1 win at the same stage in Canada a year ago. The gap in class, however, is close to nothing.

Two different routes into the second week

Svitolina has advanced mainly by surviving. A heavy three-setter against Bouzas was followed by an economical hour-long win over Potapova, but her serve remains the weak link, with strings of double faults in the Bouzas and Kudermetova matches. In the first round she nearly handed back a commanding lead in the deciding set.

Anisimova arrives with a lighter workload and a far higher first-strike ceiling. In the third round she reset immediately after losing a set, which is the habit that matters here. The summer also offered a warning for Svitolina: Eala, a similar early-ball profile, beat her twice, and Wimbledon ended badly after hip trouble.

Why a two-game margin is the hard part

Svitolina's plan is straightforward: extend rallies, make Anisimova move before striking, attack the second serve. That worked a year ago, when the match lasted only 17 games. The current version of Svitolina, though, wins through tiebreaks and long closing stretches rather than clean control.

Anisimova collects games in bunches even in matches she loses, and one good passage on serve is enough to keep the difference inside two games. The +2.5 line covers her outright win and any tight defeat, which is most of the realistic range.

Prediction: Anisimova +2.5 games, odds 1.86
